Photo-Bio
As a boy I drew or painted practically every day: 'story' pictures as youngster, meticulous life studies as a teen. At eleven I was hooked for a few weeks on drawing Churchill's portrait using Karsh's photograph as reference. I remember thinking back then that photography was 'cheating'. I told my art teacher this when I was thirteen. She laughed.
I didn't use photography until my 20's. I picked up a book of iconic 20th century photographs and the love affair began. It soon led to the break-up of my marriage to a career in B2B sales & marketing.
For the first five years as a professional I worked with corporate portraiture and interiors for both the commercial and editorial sectors. I developed a great client base and shot at locations across Europe and the America's. Making these clients happy has always been satisfying, but the photos I created for them were not my own. Not really.
So I've now come full-circle, returning to pictures of striking people in telling locations, with a dash of personal invention to flavour our reality... It's just like being a kid again.
